What to prepare

The quest requires two sets of resources, handed to Kamiki: one for the bait for Kaonashi, one for the exorcism ritual. The Spiritual Essence and the O-Fuda are obtained on Mount Tombs.

1. 1Reply to the Pandalan Guard

   Dialogue[20,-29] · Pandalan Guard

   The quest starts in front of the Pandazaap Inn, when the Pandalan Guard calls out to you. He tells you that the Daimya wants to talk to you about a confidential matter.

2. 2Speak with the Daimya

   [22,-29] · Daimya Hikomi

   Enter the Bamboo Palace and talk to the guards to get into the Daimya's room. Residents of Pandala are disappearing for no reason day after day; one of them escaped the criminal and is being treated at Surivitna's. She asks you to investigate without arousing suspicion, to avoid a panic.

   

3. 3Question the injured villager

   Dialogue[20,-27] · Injured Pandalan

   In the shaman's house, the Injured Pandalan says he was walking his dragoturkeys when something attacked him from behind and sank its fangs into his body. He owes his life to his dragoturkeys, whose cries drove the attacker away.

   

4. 4Ask for Surivitna's opinion

   On the same map, Surivitna gives her diagnosis: the assailant would be a beast or a Yokai, since it drank almost all of the Pandawa's blood.

5. 5Inspect the area

   [18,-29] · Injured Dragoturkey

   First talk to the Injured Dragoturkey, which also seems to have been bitten. Then examine the bloodstains on the left of the map, near the barrels.

   

6. 6Listen to the Ferminted Geisha

   Dialogue[18,-29] · Ferminted Geisha

   A geisha appears and signals to you. She witnessed the attack: a shadow went after the Pandawa, with a white mask and a strange glow, like a ghost. She then fled and warned the guards.

7. 7Report back to the Daimya

   [22,-29] · Daimya Hikomi

   Tell Daimya Hikomi that the attacker could be a spectral Yokai. To locate it, she advises you to contact the Slayspirits, warriors of the occult who often face this kind of Yokai.

   

8. 8Ask Danaba Retzu for advice

   Dialogue[36,-40] · Danaba Retzu

   Get to Nolifis Island, by boat from [27,-27]. The Slayspirits are too few to help you, but they cannot turn a blind eye to an evil being massacring Pandalans: Danaba Retzu sends you to see Kamiki, the most experienced against the Yokai of Nolifis. Danaba Retzu also starts the quest Where's My Samurai?.

9. 9Learn the Slayspirit Lantern (optional)

   In exchange for 4 Samurai Ghost Fabric, Danaba Retzu teaches you the special spell Slayspirit Lantern, useful in the Shogun Tofugawa's Tomb dungeon.

10. 10Talk to Kamiki

    On the map to the right, explain the situation to Kamiki. From your description, she thinks of a Kaonashi, a gluttonous Yokai, and offers to make a bait to lure it: she needs 10 Fresh Meat and 5 Spiritual Essence.

    

11. 11Collect 5 Spiritual Essence

    Items

    The Spiritual Essence is a quest resource that drops at 100% from monsters on Mount Tombs: you only need to defeat 5.

12. 12Have the bait made

    Hand the resources to Kamiki: she gives you the Kaonashi Bait. This Yokai likes to look at its reflection in the water: you have to place the bait near a body of water on Mount Tombs.

13. 13Place the bait

    By the water, click on the plants to place the Kaonashi Bait. An Imposing Kaonashi appears immediately.

    

14. 14Defeat the Imposing Kaonashi

    Talk to the Imposing Kaonashi, who holds out gold coins to you. The fight is solo.

15. 15Listen to Kamiki

    Dialogue[36,-45] · Kamiki

    Kamiki appears on the map. A Kaonashi is only dangerous if you accept its gold, and this one was carrying too much to have attacked anyone recently: it is not the attacker. She wants to examine the injured man and now follows you as a follower.

16. 16Let Kamiki examine the injured man

    [20,-27] · Kamiki

    In the shaman's house, talk to Kamiki again. The culprit would be the Rokubi, a parasitic Yokai from Mount Tombs that feeds on blood and life energy and gradually takes possession of a woman. The geisha could be her host: knowing she is being hunted, the Rokubi has surely gone back to her lair.

    

17. 17Meet Kamiki on Mount Tombs

    Meet Kamiki at the entrance of Mount Tombs: she asks you to look for signs of the Rokubi.

    

18. 18Try to heal the Kitsou

    The Dying Kitsou has just been attacked. It's no use: he dies, and you are suddenly surrounded by Yokai.

19. 19Defend yourself against the vengeful Yokai

    Talk to one of the Yokai, for example the Vengeful Tsume-Bozu, to start the fight. It can be done with several players.

20. 20Follow the tracks of blood

    Movement[40,-45]

    Talk to Kamiki to resume the hunt and follow the bloodstains left by the Rokubi. They lead to [40,-45] : enter the house on the right, the Rokubi's lair.

    

21. 21Talk to the Ferminted Geisha

    Dialogue[40,-45] · Ferminted Geisha

    The geisha seems to be her normal self, but she knows she is possessed: she asks you to step back, because she does not control the Yokai that possesses her. She suddenly takes on the appearance of the Rokubi.

22. 22Defeat the Rokubi

    Combat[40,-45]

    Talk to the Rokubi, who threatens you. The fight is solo, with Kamiki at your side.

    Each spell damage heals her for 100% and increases her power. Hit her with your weapon first: she enters a state that, for 2 turns, lets you use your spells normally.

23. 23Decide the Rokubi's fate

    Talk to Kamiki; it doesn't seem necessary to talk to the Rokubi. Kamiki refuses to execute her, since that would kill the Twelvian she possesses: Tsicroxe might be able to exorcise her and save her.

24. 24Consult Tsicroxe

    [15,-31] · Tsicroxe

    Talk to the Guardian of the Enigmagmatic Cave so that he lets you through, then to Tsicroxe. He has never exorcised a Rokubi, but his ancestors did: the ritual is complicated and requires a special talisman. He explains what you need to gather.

    The quest Fifoux's Folly may be needed to continue at this step: this point remains to be verified.

    

25. 25Gather the ritual ingredients

    Items

    You need 100 Eternal Ashes, 10 Yokai Snowfoux Skull, 5 Worn Lantern and 1 O-Fuda. The O-Fuda is obtained by clicking on a prayer paper on Mount Tombs; its position seems to change depending on the time.

    The O-Fuda can be picked up even without having started the quest. If no paper is clickable, check your quest inventory: you probably already have it.

26. 26Entrust the ritual to Kamiki

    Join Kamiki to hand over the ingredients and Tsicroxe's instructions. Her ritual separates the Rokubi from the geisha, who collapses: the Rokubi is banished from the Material Plane, but the geisha might keep aftereffects.

27. 27Announce the news to Chonayu

    In the Ferminted Inn, tell Chonayu that his geisha was the victim of a Yokai attack, without revealing that she was possessed and was attacking the villagers against her will.

    

28. 28Make your final report to the Daimya

    [22,-29] · Daimya Hikomi

    Daimya Hikomi thanks you, including for keeping the geisha's situation secret, as she could have been stigmatized for crimes committed against her will. The quest ends.

Where does the Dark Mystery quest start?

In front of the Pandazaap Inn, in Pandala Village at [20,-29]. The Pandalan Guard calls out to you. You must be level 150 and have completed Pandala Awakens.

Where can I find the Spiritual Essence?

From monsters on Mount Tombs, at 100%. It is a quest resource: you only need to defeat 5.

Where can I find the O-Fuda?

On a prayer paper on Mount Tombs, at [35,-46] or [38,-44]. Its position seems to change depending on the time. If no paper is clickable, you probably already have the O-Fuda in your quest inventory.

How do I beat the Rokubi?

Hit her with a weapon first. Each spell damage heals her for 100% and strengthens her, but a weapon hit puts her for 2 turns in a state that lets you use your spells.

Are the fights solo?

Yes for the Imposing Kaonashi and the Rokubi, the latter with Kamiki as an ally. The fight against the vengeful Yokai at [39,-43] can be done with several players.

How do I get to Tsicroxe?

In [15,-31], through the guarded cave. Talk to the Guardian of the Enigmagmatic Cave so that he lets you through, then to Tsicroxe.

How do I learn the Slayspirit Lantern spell?

With Danaba Retzu at [36,-40], in exchange for 4 Samurai Ghost Fabric. It is optional, but useful in the Shogun Tofugawa's Tomb dungeon.
