What to prepare

Nothing to buy. You need to be able to access the ink and paper realms: if you have never been, answer Daoh's questions in one of the two sanctuaries. The three fights are solo.

1. 1Talk to the Melancholic Pandawa

   At Akwadala, the Pandawa seems to be mute. She tries to communicate by folding an origami, without much success.

2. 2Meet Pandako Shazaki

   Dialogue[18,-34] · Pandako Shazaki

   This origami expert explains that the Pandawa must fold a swane, the basis of origamist training. She gives you a book explaining how to do it and recommends wazhi paper, but her last paper order never arrived.

3. 3Examine the broken box

   [16,-31]

   Click on the broken box in the center of the map. The paper convoy was attacked, and the attackers seem to have headed north-west.

4. 4Defeat Fougo

   Combat[14,-33] · Fougo

   Fougo is busy trying to burn a sheet of paper: he is one of the convoy thieves. A fight starts, solo. After the victory, you get the Box of Wazhi Paper.

5. 5Deliver the box to Pandako Shazaki

   To thank you, Pandako entrusts you with a thousand sheets of wazhi for a thousand swanes.

6. 6Hand over the diagram and the paper

   Items[20,-22] · Melancholic Pandawa

   Give the Pandawa the diagram and the stack of paper. She succeeds with her first swane, but after a few seconds the origami blackens and falls to ashes. You need to find the source of her troubles.

7. 7Confront Vonbartroth in Grobe

   Combat[33,-40] · Vonbartroth

   Grobe is reached by boat at [27,-27]. This spirit presents himself as a terrible sorcerer: he drowned in Akwadala because of the Pandawa and wants revenge. A fight starts against the specters of the drowned, solo.

   Dialogue

   1. “Return his gaze, adding a good dose of suspicion”
   2. “Ignore his threats and ask whether he knows a mute Pandawa”
   3. “Inquire about the reason for such a stubborn grudge”

   Rather tricky fight: play at long range (more than 12 range) or with healing. The enemy spells reach 12 range without line of sight: they remove Water resistance, 2 AP and 2 MP, AP and MP dodge, and poison with Water; at close range, they whack for 400 Water while stealing life, range or vitality.

   

8. 8Listen to Vonbartroth's confession

   Dialogue[33,-40] · Vonbartroth

   Talk to him again: when he was alive, he wanted to sacrifice the Pandawa during a magic ceremony, but she defended herself and a flock of swanes hurled him into the water.

9. 9Go back to see the Melancholic Pandawa

   Dialogue[20,-22] · Melancholic Pandawa

   Tell him that you met the sorcerer responsible for his misfortune, but that you could do nothing.

   

10. 10Fold the thousandth swane

    Dialogue[20,-22] · Pandako Shazaki

    Pandako Shazaki has just arrived: a garland of a thousand swanes would let the Pandawa fulfill her wish and get rid of the curse. You must fold the last one yourself, following these choices in order.

11. 11Reach the ink realm

    Movement

    All that remains is to erase an ancient word that seals the curse, in the ink realm area. Two ways in: the Wukang sanctuary at [15,-31] (enter the cave and go right), or the Wukin sanctuary at [20,-38], by the Highland Kwak. Leave the sanctuary to arrive in the realms.

    First visit: talk to Daoh in one of the sanctuaries (“More Info about this place”). For the first question, the nature of your fire: “The White Fire” for Ecaflip, Eniripsa, Iop, Cra, Feca, Sacrier, Eliotrope; “The Black Fire” for Sadida, Osamodas, Enutrof, Sram, Xelor, Pandawa, Rogue, Masqueraider, Foggernaut, Ouginak; “The White Fire and the Black Fire” for Huppermage, Forgelance. For the second, about the creator of the Kingdom of Paper: “The dragon of Pandala.” The Iroru Symbol you obtain then opens the realms at will; to come back to Pandala, ask Daoh for it again in a sanctuary.

    

12. 12Free the swanes at the lakeside

    In the celestial realms, use the One Thousand Swanes garland. The paper swanes land around the lake.

14. 14Announce the good news

    Tell the Pandawa that she is freed from the curse. She transforms: talk to the Delivered Swane. The Pandawa was actually a swane, and the quest ends.

How do you beat Vonbartroth's Curse?

By taking all her HP away in a single turn. She fully heals at the start of each turn, but loses a bit of resistance each time.
