The 12 quest steps

  1. 1Talk to Ward Cowly

    Dialogue · Ward Cowly

Behind Ward Cowly stretches the Brakmar mine, with its deep green deposits reflecting the lava. He no longer dares go there: he hears moaning in it and believes it's the ghosts of rats that fell into the lava.

  5. 5Try to lead the kikitty to the exit

    Dialogue · Lost Kikitty

    Dialogue

    1. “Give up and go back to Ward Cowly to talk about this strange ore”
  6. 6Tell the story to Ward Cowly

    Dialogue · Ward Cowly

Tell him that his ghosts are a kikitty. He is allergic to chachas and begs you to make it leave. It's the light of the ore that holds it there: a shard from the deposit would let you lure it outside with a play of light, but you need a specific tool to extract it.

  7. 7Craft the Single-Use Pick

    Crafting

Craft a Single-Use Pick with the Smith profession, level 10 or higher: 1 Pointed Stone Fragment, 1 Chestnut Wood and 1 Ferrite.

The pick breaks as soon as it's used and may yield nothing. You can craft several at once.

    Items · Ward Cowly

Ward Cowly confirms that the pick should let you recover a shard, but it can only be used once and success isn't guaranteed.

  9. 9Extract a precious mineral shard

Equip the Single-Use Pick in place of your weapon, then click the smallest green deposit, the one in front of the kikitty. If the shard doesn't come out, craft another pick and try again.

The pick is destroyed on the first click. The higher your miner level, the better your chances: about 1 in 5 at level 200.
