The 12 quest steps

1. 1Talk to Fryda the Midnight Claw

   Dialogue[-21,35] · Fryda the Midnight Claw

   Fryda thinks a shadow hangs over her and her loved ones. She tells you the story of the Bogeyman, a child killer burned in his home along with the old elm next door: since the Cursed Day, the descendants of his victims die in their nightmares. Cynan Sonthomp, the only person to have known him alive, has gone to bury his bones following a ritual. Fryda asks you to find her and help her.

2. 2Find Cynan Sonthomp

   [-13,41] · Cynan Sonthomp

   Cynan Sonthomp assures you everything is fine: the chafers leave her alone thanks to her osteoporosis powder. But she hasn't slept in so long that she falls asleep from exhaustion on the spot.

   

3. 3Defeat the Nightmarish Chafers

   Combat[-13,41]

   Talk to one of the Nightmarish Chafers that appeared around her. The fight can be done with several players. It pits you against three Nightmarish Chafers with lots of HP and a Nightmarish Ossuary with 550,000 HP, with 100% resistance everywhere and invulnerable.

   Kill the 3 Nightmarish Chafers in the same turn: the Mass Grave then dies automatically on the next turn. Otherwise, the killed chafers come back to life with full HP on the next turn.

4. 4Search Cynan's bag

   Dialogue[3,0] · Abandoned Bag

   After the fight, Cynan has disappeared: she must be in a nightmare. Go to the Destroyers' Nightmare zone, at [3,0], where her satchel and equipment lie in a pool of blood. Talk to the Abandoned Bag: you find bones and a scroll in it.

   You must have completed The Weight of Its Gaze to access the Destroyers' Nightmare.

5. 5Read the tattered scroll

   Read the Tattered Scroll from your quest inventory. Not everything is legible: it's a nursery rhyme to scare children, which also seems to describe how to stop the nightmares.

6. 6Collect 3 Demon Blood

   Items

   Fight the monsters of the Destroyers' Nightmare zone until you get 3 Demon Blood, at 3% base.

   Start Dance of Dissonance beforehand, up to the step where you must obtain 30 items from the zone's monsters, and Soaring Demongraphy, which requires defeating 15 monsters of each kind in the zone.

7. 7Go back to see Fryda

   Dialogue[-21,35] · Fryda the Midnight Claw

   First tell Fryda about Cynan's death, then that you've recovered the ritual items and that you're taking over. Seeing the scroll, she helps you reconstruct the rhyme, which she knows by heart. You have the blood to pour on the bones, but the sacrifice is missing.

8. 8Listen to Eiwech

   Dialogue[-21,35] · Eiwech

   A harp melody can be heard: talk to Eiwech, the god of dreams. Cynan is heading to Externam because she didn't perform the rite in the right place: the elm clearing, in the Evil Forest. The sacrifice is the Brakmar elm burned in the fire. Plan for 10 Elm Wood before leaving.

9. 9Go to the elm clearing

   Movement[-5,17] · Halden

   Go to [-5,17] and climb the stairs to the elm clearing. Talk to the Elm Tree Root, a symbol between sacred and cursed: this is where the ritual will take place. Then talk to Halden, the little god sent by Eiwech, and give him the Elm Wood: he turns it into statuettes with tormented faces.

   You must have completed Pendulum Swinger's Guide to access Dark Vlad's Labyrinth, whose entrance is at [-5,13].

10. 10Perform the ritual

    Dialogue[-5,17] · Elm Tree Root

    Equip Cynan's Cross in place of your weapon, then talk to the Elm Tree Root to dig around it, and stop when the meryde tells you to. Recite the rhyme, then, when the root starts to wriggle, place the assassin's bones, then the Demon Blood.

    Don't make a mistake in the nursery rhyme: a mistake expels you from the labyrinth.

11. 11Defeat Kru'Gor

    Combat[-7,16] · Kru'Gor

    You're teleported into the elm's nightmare. Talk to Kru'Gor: the fight is solo. Once defeated, Kru'Gor is condemned to stay in the citadel of Externam, with no more hold over mortals.

12. 12Tell Fryda the good news

    Dialogue[-21,35] · Fryda the Midnight Claw

    Go back to Brakmar and tell Fryda you've defeated Kru'Gor: she no longer has to fear the nightmares. The quest ends.
