Beat the Royal Pingwin

The healed character must survive

Healing a character in contact with the Royal Pingwin makes him vulnerable for 6 turns. If that character dies, the boss immediately becomes invulnerable again. Protect them until the boss dies, or until the next heal.

He starts invulnerable, for the whole fight, until a character is healed in contact with him. He steals life and swaps places with you up to 2 RNG, and grows stronger with each dead monster. Weak point: Air, at 22%; Water is what he withstands best.

The four-step strategy against the Royal Pingwin

Choose your order. Each dead monster gives the Royal Pingwin 1,000 vitality, 10% final damage and 1 MP, with no limit. A small team is better off killing it first; a large team can clean up first, starting with the Mama Pingwin.

Removing the invulnerability. Place a character in contact with the boss, with no ally next to them, then heal them: Pingwindbreak removes the invulnerability. Healing a summon does not work; a Cawwot's glyph works, but requires more precise placement.

Six turns to strike. The window lasts 6 turns from the heal. Hit with everything you have as soon as it opens: when vulnerable, the boss protects himself with a shield thanks to Pingwoxygen, and hits in contact with Pingwindscreen. Keep the healed character alive.

Heal without getting hurt. All fight long, Pingwindbreak hits allies in contact with a healed character, and much harder if you heal an ally who is touching you. Step away before each heal. Pushing or pulling the boss also lets you heal yourself from your damage to him for one turn.

The Royal Pingwin's effects

Pingwindjammer makes him invulnerable from the very start of the fight, before you even play. Pingwindbreak, active all fight, hits allies in contact with the healed character with Water: it is that same heal, received in contact with the boss, that removes the invulnerability for 6 turns.

Pingwince gives him 1,000 vitality, 10% final damage and 1 MP for each dead ally, not counting monsters resurrected by the Mama Pingwin. Mansomnanbule activates when you push or pull him: for one turn, you heal for 100% of the damage you deal to him, a heal that also triggers Pingwindbreak if an ally is next to you.

The monsters of Royal Pingwin's Excavation

Five level 132 Pingwins with 2,800 HP, each very weak (-25% or more) in a different element. Almost all of them swap places with you: always keep a fallback cell. Resistances in red are their weaknesses.

In which order to kill the monsters

  1. Mama Pingwin — she resurrects the last dead monster, which drops again as soon as she dies.
  2. Shaman Pingwin — he makes you Weakened and places area maluses around him.

Preparing your run through Royal Pingwin's Excavation

A dungeon for levels 130 to 140, rated easy, ideal for learning to handle an invulnerable boss. People come here for the Frozen Lake quests, the achievements and the Royal Pingwin capture, with a Soul Stone for Big Souls (captures up to level 150).

How to enter Royal Pingwin's Excavation

The entrance is at the Frozen Lake, on Frigost Island, at ; the nearest zaap is the one at Sakai Plain . A pair of disposable dark skis, bought at , leads you straight there, once the quest Star Ski and Dutch is completed. There are three ways to open it: a Pingwin Key (consumed), the key ring if it is registered there, or the automatic group finder.

Crafting the Pingwin Key

It is crafted at a handyman's workshop. Five ingredients drop from the dungeon's Pingwins, at over 25%: Pingwinkle Feather, Shaman Pingwin Beard Hair, Pingwobble Skin, Mama Pingwin Down and Kung-Fu Pingwin Tail. Monkfish, Ginseng and Hemp complete the recipe.

Which team to bring against the Royal Pingwin

A healer, or a Cawwot. It is healing that removes the boss's invulnerability. A character able to heal is very useful; otherwise, a Cawwot's glyph works, with more precise placement.

Several elements. Each Pingwin has a marked weakness in a different element: Water for the Kung-Fu Pingwin and the Pingwobble, Fire for the Mama Pingwin, Air for the Shaman Pingwin, Earth for the Pingwinkle. Vary your elements, and hit the boss with Air.

The six achievements of Royal Pingwin's Excavation

Each achievement gives 12,540,000 XP and 2 Royal Pingwin Feather, Duo doubles the XP; Sidekick gives 18,810,000 XP. Each challenge is played around the heal that makes the boss vulnerable.

Royal Pingwin (Special) iconRoyal Pingwin (Special) Defeat Royal Pingwin in his dungeon while completing the “Royal Privilege” challenge. 10 12 540 000

Special: Royal Privilege

At the start of each turn, the Royal Pingwin designates a fighter: only that one can be healed. The designated fighter carries a heart icon above them. That one is therefore the only one who can stick to the Royal Pingwin to remove its invulnerability: wait until they are designated to position and heal them.

Last

The Royal Pingwin must be finished off last. Killing the monsters first strengthens it, with 1,000 vitality, 10% final damage and 1 MP per dead monster. Plan for a lot of damage at the end and keep a heal ready to reopen the vulnerability window.

Tight

Each ally must end their turn next to another ally. The catch is Pingwindbreak: every heal hits the allies stuck to the healed character, including the heal that makes the boss vulnerable, while this challenge forces you to stay grouped. Take that into account before each heal, and prefer to stick to allies who do not need healing.

Drops and loot of Royal Pingwin's Excavation
