Beat the Soft Oak

Never in line with it

Sylvan Attraction pulls characters lined up with it by 12 cells, then it hits them very hard in melee and pushes them back with Branch Tornado. No fragile character should end a turn in its line.

The five-step strategy against the Soft Oak

Positioning. Put your least sturdy characters at the back of the map, out of its lines. Buff yourselves on the first turn.

Cut Complicity. When it gives itself range with Complicity, unbewitch it, then remove its RNG, with an Enutrof for example. Also remove its MP and stay out of its lines: being lined up with it is how you end up in its melee range.

The two Branches first. The Healing Branch heals its allies and itself a lot, the Summoning Branch fills the map, even with new Branches. Kill them first, before they make the fight interminable.

The Short-Tempered ones, at range. Then kill the rest of the monsters while keeping the Soft Oak out of your team's reach. The Short-Tempered Dark Treechnee and the Short-Tempered Araknotron teleport: don't think you're safe just because they're far away.

The Soft Oak alone. Only it remains: hit it with Air and Water, its two weaknesses, always out of its lines.

The monsters of the Soft Oak Clearing

Five Short-Tempered Treechnidians of level 124 to 136, including two immobile Branches. The Branches go before everything else. The resistances in red are their weaknesses.

In which order to kill the monsters

  1. Healing Branch — with no MP, it heals its allies and itself enormously, at any distance.
  2. Summoning Branch — it summons dungeon monsters, including other Branches.
  3. Short-Tempered Dark Treechnee, then Short-Tempered Arachnotron, then Short-Tempered Dark Treechnid — after that, in whatever order suits you, keeping the Soft Oak out of range.

Preparing your run through the Soft Oak Clearing

A level 130 to 140 dungeon for teams that focus their damage and control range. You come here for the quests, the Soft Oak Roots and the boss's soul, required by the Ochre Dofus: bring a Soul Stone for Big Souls (captures up to level 150).

How to enter the Soft Oak Clearing

The entrance is in the Dark Forest, in the Treechnid Forest, at : talk to Josette Moresyca to enter, and again to leave. The nearest zaap is the Imp Village one . You need a Soft Oak Clearing Key (consumed), the key ring, or the automatic group search.

Crafting the Soft Oak Clearing Key

It is crafted at a handyman's. The thirty main ingredients come from the Treechnids: 10 Dark Treechnid Root, 10 Venerable Treechnid Root and 10 Dark Treechnee Bark. Macerated Meat, Monkfish (fishing), Ginseng and Hemp (harvesting) complete the recipe.

Which team to bring against the Soft Oak

Air and Water. The Soft Oak strongly resists Earth and Fire. Two elements are enough against it: Air and Water.

Unbewitchment and RNG removal. Complicity gives it enormous range. Unbewitch it, then remove its RNG: an Enutrof does both.

The classes that are comfortable here. The Enutrof removes Complicity's bewitchment and takes away the Soft Oak's range; classes that hit hard in Air or Water at range finish the fight faster.

The five achievements of the Soft Oak Clearing

Each achievement gives 2 Soft Oak Root: 12,540,000 XP for most, 9,508,000 for the Special one and 25,080,000 for Duo. First and Special are done in the same fight, by targeting the Soft Oak first.

Special: Soft Lines

Each ally, apart from static summons, must end their turn in line with an enemy. Avoid ending too often in line with the Soft Oak, which would pull you: line up with the other monsters instead. Alone, it would force you to end in line with it: that's why killing it first simplifies the achievement.

First

The Soft Oak must be finished off first. Save your big turns for it and only hit the other monsters if they block your lines. Unbewitch Complicity and aim for its Air and Water weaknesses.

Freedom

Do not try to remove MP or RNG from your opponents. Without RNG removal, the Soft Oak keeps its range: unbewitch Complicity and stay out of its lines. Control the monsters through positioning, AP removal or direct damage.

Duo

Two characters maximum, fewer than 20 turns. Two characters who hit in Air or Water. Kill the Branches quickly, then save your offensive turns for the Soft Oak.

The Soft Oak Clearing as a guild Expedition

The Clearing exists as a guild Expedition, with a very resistant Soft Oak and different rules for the Branches:

  • the Branches are invulnerable as long as the Soft Oak is alive, including those that the Summoning Branch makes appear;
  • kill the other monsters first, then focus the Soft Oak until it dies, and only then the Branches;
  • the Summoning Branch summons every two turns and removes 2 AP at long range: without enough damage, deal with its summons as soon as they arrive;
  • the Healing Branch bewitches a character: each of its movements heals the nearest enemy. The heal counts per movement, not per MP: move in a single go, toward an unhurt enemy, never near the Soft Oak;
  • erosion limits these heals; healing or protection help you hold out if the fight drags on. Hit with Water and Air.
